What This Is

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps income-qualified households in Fulton County with energy costs, including natural gas, propane, and electric bills.

The program may also provide assistance for reconnecting service or repairing inoperable heating systems.

Who This Is For

You may qualify if your household meets income requirements and needs help with:

  • Utility bills (gas, electric, propane)
  • Disconnection or reconnection of service
  • Furnace assistance for non-working heating systems

Eligibility is based on household size and income.

Family receiving energy assistance support in Fulton County

When You Can Apply

  • October 1, 2025
    • Adults age 60 and older
    • Individuals with a disability
    • Families with children under age 6
    • Households disconnected, facing disconnection, or with less than 25% propane
  • November 1, 2025
    • All other income-eligible households

Applications are accepted through August 15, 2026, or until funding is exhausted.

What the Program Provides

LIHEAP provides:

  • One-time assistance for energy bills
  • Reconnection assistance if service has been shut off
  • Furnace assistance for inoperable heating systems

Households may return during the program year for additional assistance if needed.

Income Requirements

Households must be at or below 60% of the State Median Income.

30-Day Income Limits:

  • 1 person: $3,332
  • 2 people: $4,357
  • 3 people: $5,382
  • 4 people: $6,407

What to Bring

You MUST bring all required documentation:

  • Proof of income for all household members (last 30 days)
  • Social Security Numbers (SSN) for all household members
    • Individuals without SSN or ITIN may still apply
  • Current heat and electric bills (issued within the last 30 days)

For renters:

  • Lease or rental agreement showing heating costs are included in rent

Additional documents may be required depending on your situation.

  • Household size
  • Income information
  • Current utility status (active, disconnected, or at risk)

This helps staff determine eligibility and next steps quickly.

Weatherization Services

Weatherization services may be available at no cost for households that:

  • Qualify for LIHEAP
  • Have a household member receiving SSI, TANF, or AABD
  • Meet income guidelines (up to 200% of poverty level)
